Can't sleep
As per the last post the snow came down in Wales yesterday.Thankfully it did not stay around in this part anyway. It rained heavily then snowed heavily and then rained again taking it away. and that was the weather forecast!
I have a long day in work today and then two off so I had better try and get back to sleep.
And a joke to round things off and lighten up a dull blog.
Gossip????
The country doctor was just returning from a delivery at an outlying cattle ranch, when he crossed paths with the town's gossip.
"Doctor Wilson, how is the Smith baby?"
"Well, the child was born without a penis."
"Oh my goodness!" said the gossip, and with a smile on her face, she turned to head into town to spread the news.
Before she could take off to spread the news, the doctor quickly grabbed her arm, bent his head over and whispered in her ear, "But she'll have a damn nice place to put one in 18 years!"

More snow?
What a busy day yesterday! We ran a Sunday service but there were enough people catching our buses for a Saturday service. The queues were massive and most buses ran late. I was bloody glad to finish yesterday that is for sure.

Its OVER
The supposed celebration of a baby that was born to save the world has turned into an excuse to spend as much as we can and eat and drink to much. It will never end now as even this massive downturn the world has just been through has not stopped the spending. If that does not then nothing will.
I am no better because like others I have bought things that I do not need and cannot really afford but hey! that's what keeps the economy moving isn't it?

The snow has gone
We have booked a meal at a pub today just for a change. I am back in work tomorrow and this will be a nice little break before going back.
Last night we finished off a bottle of Champagne that we had bought for our anniversary. I am not one for wine but we had asked for one that was not to dry and this one was quite pleasant. I would not rush back to buy another bottle of the stuff but it was very drinkable.

Boxing day
Yesterday we had a quiet day with my mother and today we are going to see Mary's mother for another quiet day. It may not be the most exciting time but we have never been exactly party animals anyway. I had a couple of whiskeys last night and that was enough for me.
I am back at work on Monday after the Christmas break. I have had a nice week off and although I cannot say I am delighted to be back well we all have to earn a crust and this is mine.
And a joke to round things off
The Newlyweds
A young couple decided to wed. As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive. Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The groom- to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice. "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage." His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?" "Oh yes, very much," he said, "but you see, I have very smelly feet and I'm afraid that my fiancee will be put off by them." "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible and always wear socks, even to bed."
Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has bad breath in the morning." "No, you don't understand. My morning breath is so bad, I'm afraid that my fiancee will not want to sleep in the same room with me." Her mother said simply, "Try this. In the morning, get straight out of bed and head for the kitchen to make breakfast. While the family is busy eating, move on to the bathroom and brush your teeth. The key is, not to say a word until you've brushed your teeth." "I shouldn't say good morning or anything?" the daughter asked. "Not a word," her mother affirmed. "Well, it's certainly worth a try," she thought. The loving couple were finally married. Not forgetting the advice each had received, he with his perpetual socks and she with her morning silence, they managed quite well. That is, until about six months later. Shortly before dawn one morning, the husband wakes with a start to find that one of his socks had come off. Fearful of the consequences, he frantically searches the bed. This, of course, wakes his bride and without thinking, she asks, "What on earth are you doing?" "Oh, my," he replies, "you've swallowed my sock!"

Christmas Day
I dropped my son off at the hospital yesterday as he had fallen over and smashed his knee cap and it was swollen badly. I thought he might damaged it badly but in the end and two and a half hours later it was just badly hurt and no permanent damage.
While he was there we went to see Mary's Mum and sister for a bit. We have not seen them for a couple of weeks as we had been away and then the snow came down. She was well and for someone of 95 years old she is remarkable.
OK that's it. There must be something better to do today! We are off to my Mums for the day.

Ice and wheelchairs
Getting from the place I park the car to the short distance to our home was a bloody nightmare as the paths had frozen solid again. If you have never tried pushing a wheelchair on ice I suggest you try it sometime as an exercise in fear! You just know that you and the damn chair are going to go over.
As it was we did not but it was bloody close. After getting her settled in I took the car around to the back of the house to unload some stuff. There is a small slope there that has never given my problems in the past, but now the car is stuck there at the moment as when I tried to get out later the slope was iced up that badly I could not move. I just hope that it thaws a bit today.
Then my son went out and fell on the ice! His knee has come up like a balloon and I would have liked to take him to A&E but the car is stuck. So a couple of painkillers and a bandage and hope that it goes down the next day. If not he will have to get there somehow.

Still freezing
It is supposed to be getting warmer today and we have a hospital appointment this afternoon so I hope that we can get out. She will be climbing the walls otherwise as my wife hates being stuck in. Especially as I have this week off!
I have not even put the Christmas cards around our neighbours yet and that is late even for me. I will have to do it today as well as wrap up the last of the Christmas presents for my nieces kids.

How the fight started
My wife and I are watching "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" while we were in bed.
I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have sex?"
"No," she answered.
I then said, "Is that your final answer?"
She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, "Yes."
So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."
And then the fight started....
====
My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds.'
I bought her a scale.
And then the fight started...
====
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age.. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.
The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too.'
And then the fight started...
====
I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first."I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please."
He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?"
"Nah, she can order for herself."
And then the fight started...
Bitterly Cold
Last night we found blood in the urine of my wife. I thought that was very serious and it could be but it also be just an infection and we are going to have to find out today by getting the doctor over.
I have started to listen to WE7 a free music station. I love country music and we just cannot get stations over here. This one has all I need and I just have to put up with some occasional adver

40 years
The weather is to damn cold to do much to be honest and we just want to keep warm and fed!
I am not in work now until after Christmas and I am glad of it. I have only had four day in this week but I must be getting old as even that bit has tired me out. I think the last weekend when we had late nights has caught up with me.

Funnies time
The local bar was so sure that its bartender was the strongest man around that they offered a standing $1000 bet. The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the juice ran into a glass, and hand the lemon to a patron. Anyone who could squeeze one more drop of juice out would win the money. Many people had tried over time (weight-lifters, longshoremen, etc.) but nobody could do it.
One day this scrawny little man came into the bar, wearing thick glasses and a polyester suit, and said in a tiny squeaky voice " I'd like to try the bet" After the laughter had died down, the bartender said OK, grabbed a lemon,
and squeezed away. Then he handed the wrinkled remains of the rind to the little man.
But the crowd's laughter turned to total silence as the man clenched his fist around the lemon and six drops fell into the glass. As the crowd cheered, the bartender paid the $1000, and asked the little man "what do you do for a living? Are you a lumberjack, a weight-lifter, or what?" The man replied "I work for the IRS."
"Mister, why doesn't this cow have any horns?" asked the young lady from a nearby city. The farmer cocked his head for a moment, then began in a patient tone, "Well, ma'am, cattle can do a powerful lot of damage with horns. Sometimes we keep'em trimmed down with a hacksaw. Other times we can fix up the young 'uns by puttin' a couple drops of acid where their horns would grow in, and that stops 'em cold. Still, there are some breeds of cattle that never grow horns. But the reason this cow don't have no horns, ma'am, is 'cause it's a horse."

Back to work
It is our 40th anniversary next Sunday and we are celebrating by going out for a meal with our son and my Mother who is treating us to dinner in a local pub. I will have to get a bottle of champagne to go with that. I don't like the stuff but after all these years my wife deserves a treat.

My views on the area
Well Lincolnshire and neighbouring Norfolk are flat making for good driving roads when space allows. If you like long open stretches with no traffic where the roads just beg for you to put your foot down you will love it. If you get frustrated at roads with to many speed cameras and drivers you cannot pass because the roads are to narrow you will not. There are more of the latter than the former I have to say.
It is if when God finished the UK he had enough of the dramatic mountains of Scotland and the wild beauty of Yorkshire and the hilly loveliness of Wales and decided it was time for some peace and quiet.
And that is what you get in this part of the world, peace and quiet. It just seems as if the pace of life is different in this place with the flat farmlands and the wide areas of country. We enjoyed the break.
The first day
We drove up to Birmingham to stay in an 'Express by Holiday inn that we had booked for a night. Of course we were a bit early so decided to drive into Birmingham centre to have a look at the German Market that was there.
It was quite a show with stalls containing German Christmas stuff right up the whole main street. We did not by anything but the whole thing was interesting and they were very busy. I have put in two photos taken on that day. Frankfurt Market
Then back to the hotel to book in and get to bed for the evening. To do that I had to drive through 'Brum' at peak hour and oh boy! Is it busy! I am used to driving in a city during peak hour as Cardiff gets heavily congested, but Birmingham is a whole different experience. Of course in Cardiff I know the short cuts and can often take a different route, and in Birmingham I really am a stranger, but even so that is one congested city.
To anyone looking to book one of these overnight type hotels I can recommend the 'Express by Holiday Inn'. The price for the two of us was £55 and that included breakfast and it was a very comfortable stay.
The second day
We booked into Butlins and went into Skegness to have a look around. Not a bad little town with a nice shopping centre. Then back to Butlins for our evening meal.
The meals in Butlins have improved a lot since the last time we stayed there that is for sure. We had a very nice selection and as we have paid for gold cabins a nice quiet dinning room as well.
Then on to the main event, the music. Ah the music of the 60's, still as good as it was all those years ago. The first one on was 'The Dakotas'. You might remember them better as 'Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas'. Without Billy of course they lost a bit but it was still a very good opening act.
And then onto Brian Poole and the electrics. It used to be the Tremeloes of course but hey! Things change. Brian Poole has been around now for 45 years and I am afraid it showed. He got a good reception but there is no doubt his voice is not what it was.
The last act was 'Hermans Hermits' and they were huge in the 60's with 24 hits in the charts. They were in fact very good but as Peter Noone was not there of course there was that voice of his missing and that was what made the group
However it was a good night and we have another two to go.
The third day
Today we drove into Lincoln for the day to have a look around. It is a very ancient city and you can still see the walls of the city in the shopping area. I like Lincoln but sometimes it is not easy get around with a wheelchair. There are some photos on-line here.
In the evening more sixties bands. The first one was 'Dave Berry and the Cruisers'. He had a massive hit with 'The crying game' and others and to be fair was very good last night. The voice that made that hit was still there and he had huge applause from the audience.
After that was 'The Fortunes' and they were good as well. One of there big hits was 'Here it comes again' and they sang a real variety of stuff as did all the bands this weekend.
The last and headline act was 'Gerry and the Pacemakers'. He of course was huge way back then and his hits 'Ferry across the Mersey' and 'You'll never walk alone' are still being sung today.
He is still the irrepressible Gerry from years ago and you can still hear that voice that made those huge hits, but 45 odd years of blasting out rock songs in smoky clubs have not done his voice any favours. However 45 years have not done any of us favours I guess and he was very good last night.
The last day
In the unlikely event that anyone who knows the town reads this, they will no doubt say that I have missed all the real history of the place. We what we found was the biggest shopping centre that I have seen in such a small place! We parked up and wandered into town thinking that as it was a fairly small place there would not be a big shopping area.
The shops seemed to go on for ever and there must have been a couple of hundred of them. As it was near Christmas they were all doing good business as well. Mary loves to look around shops so we had to spend a bit in them!
In the evening we had our last night of sixties music. First we were treated if that is the right word to music by 'Gidea Park'. They specialise in music by The Hollies, the Beach Boys and The Everley brothers.
The music from all of these need incredibly tight harmonies and they just did not have them. They were not that bad I suppose and they even bought in one of the original Hollies to play with them. However I was not that impressed, but perhaps that is just me.
Next came the Tremeloes who's 'Silence is Golden' had a great reception. They were very good but by this time we were both knackered and a bit fed up with the loud music. The last group were ' Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Tich' but we just could not be bothered to wait for them and left.
And then on Monday the long trek back home. It is a 250 mile drive and as a lot of it is not on Motorway it took 5 ¼ hours including one stop. And then on Wednesday back to work!
People and life
As it was a 60's weekend you might have expected some unusual outfits and by the lord there was! Quite a lot of short dresses on women who were far to old to were them with the huge patterns of the time. There were guys dressed up like John Lennon and such and of course there were the stag and hen parties all with weird outfits.
There was quite a few outfits from the Beatles days and also two guys wearing outfits from 'Thunderbirds' the puppet program way back then. Also a couple of cowboys and quite a few 'teddy boys'. These no doubt would have had the hair all those years ago but these days they have to get it from a joke shop! There was even a guy dressed as Dracula for some unknown reason...
Girls wearing very sexy airline captains outfits that made my eyes pop out and Santa outfits that would have changed him into a naughty boy!
Does it seem ironic only to me that I am writing this on a laptop with my mobile phone nearby. I will upload photos taken on a digital camera to my Google Picasa account when I get home and am missing the always on broadband that I am used to. All of this while away for a weekend of music from nearly 50 years ago when even science fiction writers could not have even dreamed of the staff that we take for granted today........

Some time off

Well that is work done for the next six days. We are driving up to Birmingham today and will stay overnight and visit the Germand Christmas market in the town centre. Then off to Butlins in Skegness on Friday for a weekend of 60's type music. The best there has ever been!
We have not been away since May when we went to Ireland and we are really ready for this break. It is really a celebration as our 40th anniversary is a week later and this is a bit special for us.
And a little joke to finish off with...
An elderly woman went to her local doctor’s office and asked to speak with her doctor. When the receptionist asked why she was there, she replied, “I’d like to have some birth control pills.”
Taken back, the doctor thought for a minute and then said, “Excuse me, Mrs. Glenwood, but you’re 80 years old. What would you possibly need birth control pills for?”
The woman replied, “They help me sleep better.”
The doctor considered this for a second, and continued… “How in the world do birth control pills help you sleep?”
The woman said, “I put them in my granddaughter’s orange juice, and I sleep better at night.”

Sleep-whats the point?

Well I went to bed last night with the intention of getting a good nights sleep before getting up at 04.30. That was the intention at least, but at 3.00 I was wide awake and at 4.00 I gave up and put the kettle on. Like a lot of people getting a bit older I do not need to sleep so much these days. Perhaps it is the strange shifts that I have worked nearly all my life that has buggered up my sleeping pattern.
Work Yesterday was horrendous. I am not going to put the details here because if anyone does read this they will not care anyway but bloody hell it was busy. I never stopped all day. I just hope it is a lot quieter today.

A Sunday in work

I work every forth Sunday and this is my weekend on. I don't mind these days but for a Sunday it is usually damn busy. There is no-one else in the office so all the work that you usually get help with you have to do on your own. Still it goes quickly as you are so busy.
More heavy rain last night. I was awake at about 3.00 and the rain was hamering down. You would think by now there was nothing left up there. We will never have floods where we live as we are to high above sea level. If we ever get that bad Noah and his ark will float past!
And a little bit of humor to brighten up the day....
A Blonde's Revenge
A Blonde Writes Back For all of you (especially men) who like to send blonde jokes, it's time for paybacks... How many honest, intelligent, caring men in the world does it take to do the dishes? Why did the man cross the road? Why don't women blink during foreplay? Why does it take 1 million sperm to fertilize one egg?
How does a man show that he is planning for the future? What is the difference between men and government bonds? Why are blonde jokes so short? How many men does it take to change a roll of toilet paper? Why is it difficult to find men who are sensitive, caring and good looking? What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night? When do you care for a man's company? Why are married women heavier than single women? How did Pinocchio find out he was made of wood? How do you get a man to do sit-ups? What did God say after creating man? What did God say after creating Eve? How are men and parking spots alike? What is the one thing that all men at singles bars have in common? Man says to God: "God, why did you make woman so beautiful?"

Another day in work and still raining

Well I might as well moan about the weather because no-one reads this crap anyway. Off to work today,(Saturday) and hopefully this should be a quiet day. I say that every bloody Saturday and it never is! And it is my weekend in work so I am working Sunday as well. Just once I would like a quiet weekend and we can only hope.......
The bloody rain never seems to end does it? I know it is December but hey! it could stop for a day or two. Well we are away next weekend and I just hope that we get a dry few days.
Just to lighten up this crap I have put in a photo of my nieces boys taken and photoshoped by a friend of hers.
And I have put in something to laugh at below as well
A blonde walks into a doctor's office. She gets in the room with the doctor and says, "Doc, I hurt all over." The doctor is really confused. He says, "What do you mean, you hurt all over?" The blonde says, "I'll show you."
She then touches herself on her leg. "OW!!! I hurt there." Then she touches her earlobe. "OW!!!!!! I hurt there too!" Then she touches her hair. "OW!!!!! EVEN MY HAIR HURTS!" So the doctor sits back and thinks on it for 5 min. Then he says, "Tell me, is blonde your natural hair color?" The blonde says "Yes, why?"
The doctor says, "Well, you got a broken finger..."

Oh its early!

What does the 0 stand for in 02.30? Oh my God its early! And that is the time that I got today to go to work. This time has been fairly regular for me for over 30 years now and although you get used to it, the alarm still hurts when it goes off.
My brother came around yesterday to ask me to scan in an old wedding photo of theirs from 25 years ago. With a minor bit of fiddling using Picasa it was a new photo. It worked that well that I am going to put in a load of my old suff that has been in boxes for years soon. I have put the photo here to show how well it came out.

Day off
I have just had an email from a relative in the USA that I have not written to in years. We both lost the email addresses so it was nice to get that message. Hi to Diane of she reads this.
Just to make the day off interesting we have a funeral to go to this afternoon. An old friend of the family has passed away and we are saying the final goodbyes. He was ill for a long time and I think it was a relief when he finally went. I would hate to linger like that. My own father went very suddenly and when my end comes that is the way to go. Not yet though!
Well after that rather depressing letter a little joke to lighten it up below,
An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again. The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father [never having seen an elevator] responded "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."
While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up. They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction.
The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, "Go get your mother."

Another day in work
Think of the trains that run early in the morning and the bus you might want to catch to work. Who do you think drives them and what time do they start? Our companies first bus leaves at 04.30 so the driver has to be in by 04.09 to get it out. He or she has to have a supervisor there to sign him on and they start before he does.
The last bus gets in at past midnight and there will be a supervisor on until after it gets in. So if you ever read this think perhaps that buses and trains do not run themselves and the staff work all sorts 0f weird hours.
And to make it a little less serious....
One day a girl decided to buy some crotchless panties to surprise her boyfriend. She went and bought them, got home, put them on and waited. When the boyfriend got home there she was spread eagle on the bed with only her panties and bra on. "Come over here baby." she says smiling. The boyfriend backs off, "If your pussy can do that to your panties - I ain't going any where near it!"

A man and his wife go to their honeymoon hotel for their 25th anniversary. As the couple reflected on that magical evening 25 years ago, the wife asked the husband, "When you first saw my naked body in front of you, what was going through your mind?"
The husband replied, "All I wanted to do was to fuck your brains out, and suck your tits dry."
Then, as the wife undressed, she asked, "What are you thinking now?"
He replied, "It looks as if I did a pretty good job."

rembering when it did not rain
Well we have had sometimes this year when the rain did not come down. It seems a long time ago now though so I thought that I would put in a photo or two of those times. We spent a week with a friend from Holland in August. There were one or two days that week when the rain stopped and on one of them we went on the Brecon mountain railway.
We also had a day out in Cardiff Castle when the rain was coming down and I have put in some from the inside of that lovely place.
And for the last today I have put in one taken in the sun when we were in Ireland on holiday. If you actually read this drivel will you let me know so I know if it has been worth it?

Back again
I am seriously thinking of retiring next year about three years early to look after my wife who is disabled and needs more care. Work is getting busy and full time work and caring is getting very difficult. It will all depend on money of course as everything does these days.

The new car
No this is through the wonderful Motability program to help disabled people. My wife is disabled and she has had cars through Motability for the last 15 years or so. This has helped her get out and about as she just could not use public transport.
This year however we applied for an electric front seat as she is having problems getting into the car. Eventually this was agreed and fitted in. What I did not know was that we were given a manual seat and not the electric one that was advised.
This one is simply not suitable as it is to awkward to gte my wife in and out. After complaining to Motability that agreed to send someone down to test out a new seat. They have now advised her that she should have a Turnout seat with a Carony adaption and that is where we are now waiting for a call from Motability to see what they will do.
